PowerWash Simulator

A job simulator in which you power-wash dirty vehicles, buildings and objects until they gleam. It has no enemies and a very simple goal, and optional online co-op lets friends clean together.

Rinsing years of grime off, one surface at a time

What a PowerWash Simulator job looks like

PowerWash Simulator does exactly what the name says. PEGI describes it as a job simulation game in which you join a cleaning crew tasked with cleaning various structures and objects. You pick a job, arrive at something filthy, from a vehicle to a building, and wash every surface until it is spotless.

Progress is visible in the most literal way: dirt disappears in stripes as you work, so there is always a small, finishable target in front of you.

Jobs range from everyday objects to whole buildings, and the free Muckingham Files updates added more bonus jobs over time.

The game's appeal is close to that of real tidying: you start with something filthy and finish with something gleaming, and you can see exactly how far you have come at every moment.

There is no story pressure either. You can choose which job to tackle next, and if a particular vehicle or building does not appeal on a given evening, there is always another option waiting.

Why repetitive cleaning feels calm

The appeal of PowerWash Simulator is that it asks for attention without asking for stress. There are no enemies, no story to keep up with and no tricky reactions. PEGI rates it 3 with no rating issues.

It also leaves room for a podcast or music in the background. You can stop after cleaning one wall or one side of a vehicle and still feel you have finished something.

We have not ticked the no-timers flag because we could not confirm from official pages whether optional modes include time limits. The main career jobs are about thoroughness rather than speed.

If you are sensitive to noise, the steady hiss of the washer is worth testing at a low volume first. Some players find it soothing; others prefer to turn sound effects down and listen to their own music instead.

It is also forgiving of distraction. If the phone rings or the kettle boils, you can put the controller down and pick up exactly where the dirt stops.

Editorial view: choose a small job and stop when one object is spotless.

Cleaning together in co-op

Steam lists online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer for PowerWash Simulator. Two or more people can share a job, each washing a different part. It is cooperative, so there is no scoring against each other.

For couples or flatmates it works well as a shared, low-chat activity. Our guide to calm co-op for couples and families suggests ways to keep co-op relaxed.

Because the co-op is online, it works for friends or family in different homes as well as under one roof. If a child plays online, check the console's parental controls for communication and friend requests before starting.

Splitting the work also makes large jobs feel quicker and more sociable, without anyone needing to be good at games, because nothing in the job requires quick reactions or tricky controls.

Add-on packs and the sequel

PowerWash Simulator has had many additions since launch. Steam lists a series of free updates such as the Muckingham Files bonus jobs and seasonal specials, plus paid special packs themed around well-known films, television and games. None are needed to enjoy the main game.

The PEGI database lists the original on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (2022), and PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch (January 2023), all PEGI 3. A separate sequel, PowerWash Simulator 2, was released on Steam in October 2025.

If you want tidying with a story instead, try Unpacking.

Since the base game already includes a long list of jobs, there is no need to buy any add-on packs to get the full calm experience. Treat them as optional extras if a particular theme appeals.

"Calm" here is an editorial view of pacing and pressure, not a health claim. If a game stops feeling restful, it is fine to put it down.
